Persuasive Essay Thesis Builder and Online Outliner

Here is an interesting site for MLP teachers.
Step-by-step guide to writing a thesis statement and creating a persuasive essay outline

Go to http://tommarch.com/electraguide/thesis.php to try it out.  This was suggested to me by my colleague Jennifer Walden, English literature teacher at Pinole High School in California.  I know of Tom March from his work and research with Bernie Dodge on WebQuests (see http://webquest.org) and his offshoot site at http://www.kn.pacbell.com/wired/fil/.  But, I had never seen this site before.  Semra Hanim -- what do you think?  It is designed for high school students in American schools...would it be relevant for ENG101 students?

If this does have potential, have a look at March's other thesis builder and outlining tool for cause and effect essays at http://tommarch.com/electraguide/cause.php

  1. Neat - might get students to really think about what they are doing

  2. Dindy - the page actually contains all the javascript to create the thesis sentence and outline, so it is possible to save a copy of the page and edit the javascript, if you would like to tailor it to a genre or writing style typical of METU.NCC, for example, the rather unusual genre of the 250-word paragraph.
